Mesa Police Involved In Shooting August 31st

Mesa Police officers were involved in an officer-involved shooting Monday morning, August 31, after responding to reports of an armed man in a Mesa neighborhood.

Just before 9 PM, Mesa Police responded to the area of Jensen and Spring after receiving a report of a man allegedly threatening people while carrying a firearm in his waistband.

Officers attempted to make contact with the man, but he reportedly did not respond to officers. Mesa Police have received multiple calls involving the same man allegedly engaging in similar behavior, according to information provided to Prime News Network.

While officers were on scene, an unrelated vehicle collision occurred involving a Mesa Police Tahoe that was at the location as part of the police response. An officer remained at the scene to secure the area.

During that time, the suspect was reportedly seen on the other side of a block wall in a backyard with a firearm. An officer-involved shooting then occurred.

No officers were injured in the shooting.

The Gilbert Police Department is investigating the officer-involved shooting. Mesa Police are handling the separate vehicle collision involving the Mesa Police Tahoe.

The investigation remains ongoing. Additional details about the circumstances leading up to the shooting have not yet been released.
