Mesa Police Pursuit Ends In Barricade

MESA, Ariz. — A barricade situation in Mesa has ended after a man accused of pointing a firearm at another driver was taken into custody following a police pursuit.

Mesa Police officers were dispatched around 3 p.m. Friday, September 11, 2026, to the area of Val Vista Drive and the U.S. 60 freeway after receiving a report of a subject in a vehicle pointing a firearm at another driver.

Officers identified the suspect as 34-year-old Israel Sosa and located his vehicle. When officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, Sosa fled.

The Mesa Police Air Unit followed the vehicle to Sosa’s residence in the 100 block of North 74th Street, where Sosa barricaded himself inside.

Mesa and Chandler SWAT teams responded to assist. After several hours, Sosa exited the residence and was taken into custody.

Charges against Sosa are pending.

Police say there were no reported injuries related to the incident. The area, which had been closed to the public during the response, is now reopening.

Officers will remain on scene as the investigation continues.
