Mesa Gateway Engine Fire, Multiple fire agencies responded Sunday evening after an MV-22 Osprey military aircraft caught fire at Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport.

The incident was reported at approximately 5:55 p.m., with heavy flames and smoke visible from one of the aircraft's engine nacelles while it was on the airfield.

Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) crews from Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport responded with specialized foam trucks, alongside firefighters from Mesa Fire and Medical Department and Gilbert Fire & Rescue. Crews quickly attacked the fire using firefighting foam, preventing the flames from spreading further.

The MV-22 Osprey is a military tiltrotor aircraft capable of taking off and landing like a helicopter before transitioning to airplane-style flight. It is operated primarily by the U.S. Marine Corps, Air Force, and Navy.

It is unknown at this time whether anyone was injured. Officials have not released information regarding the cause of the fire or the extent of the damage to the aircraft.
