Mesa Police and Mesa Fire responded around 6:45 p.m. Saturday to the area of Val Vista Drive and University Drive after a reported hit-and-run collision involving possible injuries.

According to Mesa Police, officers determined the original collision occurred near Lindsay Road and University Drive. The suspect vehicle reportedly left the scene, continued eastbound, and later crashed into a util

ity pole near Val Vista Drive and University Drive.

The driver of the suspect vehicle was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police. The occupant of the other vehicle was not seriously injured and did not require transportation.

A DUI investigation is underway.

Police said the traffic signals in the area are currently out after the vehicle struck the pole. Despite the signal outage, traffic is reportedly moving well, and no road closures are in place.

Scanner traffic initially indicated serious injuries were being reported, but police later described the suspect driver's injuries as non-life-threatening.

The investigation remains ongoing.
