A Mesa Police officer was hospitalized Wednesday following a two-vehicle crash that caused a Mesa Police patrol vehicle to roll over near the intersection of Main Street and Higley Road in Mesa.

According to the Mesa Police Department, the collision involved a police vehicle and another vehicle. The impact caused the police vehicle to overturn, leaving the officer injured.

The good news is that the officer's injuries are not considered life-threatening. The officer was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Occupants of the second vehicle were evaluated and treated at the scene. Police did not release additional information regarding their injuries.

The collision prompted a traffic investigation near one of Mesa's busy intersections.

Mesa Police advised that the intersection of Main Street and Higley Road was expected to remain closed while investigators examined the crash scene.

Drivers were encouraged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.

Detective Aguirre, a Public Information Officer with the Mesa Police Department, confirmed the collision and the officer's injuries in a statement provided to Prime News or our Media Partners.

Authorities have not yet released details about what led to the crash, whether the officer was responding to an emergency, or which vehicle may have been responsible.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.

This is a developing story. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
