Large Flames After Gilbert Car Fire

Just after 7:05 p.m. on September 18, 2026, Gilbert Police and Gilbert Fire & Rescue responded to the area of Banning Street and Ray Road in Gilbert for reports of a vehicle fire.

When emergency crews arrived, they found a vehicle with thick smoke and visible flames coming from the engine compartment. Firefighters quickly began working to contain the fire and were able to extinguish the flames within approximately 10 minutes after the 911 call was created.

One person was evaluated by medical personnel at the scene. No additional injuries were reported at this time.

The fire caused temporary traffic restrictions in the area as emergency crews worked to extinguish the vehicle, assess the scene, and make sure the roadway was safe. Roads around the incident remain blocked at this time while crews finish clearing the area.

Drivers traveling near Banning Street and Ray Road should use caution, expect possible delays, and consider using an alternate route until the roadway is reopened.
